This page will consist of a gallery of images, with some commentary.

"COLTRANE/AFRICA"
Acrylic on canvas, 2002.
John Coltrane is my favorite jazz musician. The first album he made for Impulse Records (the label he would record with for the remainder of his career) was entitled AFRICA/BRASS. This painting takes off from that.

PLOTINUS & VIOLETS
Acrylic on canvas, 2002
Plotinus was a late (3rd century AD) but important Greek philosopher, central to Neoplatonism.
The face here is a rendering of a bust of Plotinus from (probably) the era of imperial Rome. This is one of a series of paintings I made combining Classical sculpture with flowers.
YELLOW SKY SELF-PORTRAIT
Acrylic on canvas, 1991
I had a notion to paint a background with completely "false" colors. This is the result.
The self-portrait is based on a photo taken in 1978. Lotta hair under the bridge since then.
GREEN SKY SELF-PORTRAIT
Acrylic on canvas, 1999
A companion piece to YELLOW SKY SELF-PORTRAIT
IN THE SHADOW
Acrylic on canvas, 2008
Continuing my favorite motif of inserting black & white renditions of Classical (Greek/Roman) sculptures into scenes for a surreal touch.
